8 Things That Makes the Philippines an Artsy Country

    Art is of many forms. It is the tune and notes of most instruments played by musicians, the visual in an ink-spilled medium. It is the synchronization in every movement a dancer make and the rhyme in that of a poet’s songs and tales. It can also be a set up of colorful traditional activities in a festival and the rhythm of human along side way streets full of living arts. Above all, you know its art when you see one.


The following showcased some of the work of arts of the country- the Philippines:


1. OPM

    Original Pinoy Music is still relevant, yes. The pandemic hit the music industry hard in 2020, but the music carried us through it still, chronicling days that got stranger and stranger, and offerings much needed comfort. Thus, this year was blessed with too good music from legendary and various resurfacing artists like Ben&Ben, December Avenue, Sponge Cola, Moira Dela Torre, Matthaios and more! All videoke-worthy songs with lyrics that understands and touches souls.







2. Tattoo

    The thirst for tattoo. Filipinos are artsy people no wonder why some own tattoo shops, and so many Filipinos have tattoos carved all over their bodies. But did you know that in Busculan, Tinglayan, Kalinga lives the last and oldest mambabatok- Apo Whang-od Oggay. Batok, a tattooing tradition, is a bit painful than the modern method while materials used are made from indigenous ones. Whang-od’s tribal tattoo ink is made up of charcoal and water. Once mixed, it is tapped deep into the skin.Ah, to travel, be intoxicated with coffee and the perfect tattoo..


3. Weaving

    In a region alone are various weaving techniques and designs by the weavers of threads of the Filipino heritage. Aklan is the country’s weaving capital of the Philippines with the world-class Pina Cloth. On the other hand, Ifugao Ikat weaving is a style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design.
 


4. Architectural Wonders

    Not just buildings and bridges but one of the most amazing architectural designs of the country is the rice terraces in the Cordilleras. Whereas, the Banaue rice terraces is considered as the oldest rice terraces in the world.The terraces that were carved into the mountains of the region by the ancestors of the indigenous people. How about that, showcasing in old days.


5. Dance

    Dancing, of course. Filipinos are everywhere to miss dance crazes. Ballet, zumba, hip hop- name it, there will always be that Filipino guy. What makes dancing interesting in the country are the different indigenous dance of different tribes. The movement of the feet, the arms and even the expression of the face- goes way back.

              

6. Street Arts

    The  Filipino Street Art. It quickly become a place for artists to express their ideas and frustration and to deal with controversy they faced. Today, this feeling of honesty still prevails. Hard-hitting messages and striking images live in every corner. How was that, the thing called messy on the street is actually an art. 


7. Festival 

   Filipino culture is well known for its fun and festivities. Festivals are so intricately woven into the cultural ethos of the Philippines that every month of the year witnesses some kind of festival all over  the country from different ethnic groups coming from the different regions with different cultures to celebrate. It goes along with the famous line "It's more fun in the Philippines". 

 


8. Acting

    Art is never complete without dramas. Actors and actresses internalizing characters, emotions felt in every of their lines, the dedication in their craft. Filipinos are too good in acting that it comes handy when names are being called at home ;)
